Back in Autumn 2005 I visited Alaska, I went on a cruise in Prince William sound and also went to see the bears at Brooks falls. A great place to stay over in Anchorage is a little small hotel called Copper Whale Inn, very friendly people and good value for money.

If you do go, make sure if nothing else you fly over to Brooks falls and watch the bears fish, quite an experience.
