Around the world in 20 years a brief history.
Around the world home page has been in existence pretty much since the net started. At the start of it, it was called Elevate BBS, and was in the form of a BBS which stood for bulletin board system, the idea coming from early colleges in the USA that would post a note on bulletin boards to pass information about, this worked the same way, only messages were posted on computers systems, and during the night the messages would be passed from computer to computer round the world, very slow compared to the internet we now have, but it worked.
It then moved on from this to the first home page on www.elevatebbs.co.uk, then on to the present domain, www.20years.net.
I have used it to record really my travels over the years, been lucky and met many interesting people and new friends as I travelled, and went to some great places.
I want to use this blog to do several things, highlight more things than I ever could on the graphic site of 20 years, to talk more about the places I have been too, and also to recommend hotels and places to visit.

About me, an even briefer history
My name is Paul Compton and I have been taking photographs, from very early teens, and am now over 50 so a few years, I have been lucky to travel quite extensively, and always have a camera with me. I have lived all my life on the south coast of England in a place called Fareham, and I still consider it one of the prettiest places I have known, climate is never harsh, though the summers tend to lack a bit of punch.
I cover a diverse field of photography, but enjoy wildlife, architecture, old and new, and of course our beautiful planet the most; as much as we try to kill it.
I now use Nikon camera equipment, boys and toys I think is the expression that covers me, I am in truth quite critical of my efforts, hence I try to get the best equipment I can, and make the best job of what I take.
